Priorities

My work on the School Committee responds to the times in which we live. To best serve our children, Brookline’s schools must offer students an education that is tailored, relevant, and engaging. Both elementary and secondary students benefit from shifting our schools’ resources to the classroom. We also need to modernize the way we teach based on evidence-based practices. And, we need to ensure every student deserves to feel like they belong and to be engaged, challenged, and supported.

Shift Our Schools’ Resources to the Classroom

Teachers are best able to deliver differentiated instruction and engaging content in small classes. We must preserve small classes at both the elementary and secondary level to ensure a creative, dynamic, and enriching education. Let’s make sure that our budget priority is classsroom teachers.

Modernize the Way We Teach Based on Evidence-Based Practices

New techniques in instruction can benefit all students, individually, and improve the overall learning environment. We need to take advantage of current evidence when making our decisions and provide the necessary resources for teachers and staff.

Engage, Challenge & Support Every Student;  Make Them Feel Like They Belong

The diversity of our neighborhoods and within our schools is a gift that must be treasured and nurtured. And, by creating an environment where every student feels like they belong, we unlock the pathway to learning that will allow our kids to thrive. To advance these values, we need to draw on best practices to ensure that our investments in this work lead to meaningful content and concrete outcomes.
